The 1st Division 2000 was the ninth season of the second highest Russian league in football. It started on April 9, 2000 and ended on November 4, 2000.

The league was reduced to 20 teams. These played against each other twice, divided into a first half and a second half. So each team played 38 games. The two best clubs rose to the top division in 2001 , while the last five were relegated to the third-class 2nd division .

1 Spartak-Chukotka Moscow was excluded from the league after 19 games. All remaining games were rated 3-0 for the opponents. After the season, the club was dissolved.
2 Locomotive Saint Petersburg six points were deducted due to late transfer payments. The club lost its professional status and in 2001 played in the fourth class third division .
