The 1st Division 2005 was the 14th season of the second highest Russian league in football. It started on March 27, 2005 and ended on November 6, 2005.

The 22 teams played against each other twice, divided into a first half and a second half. So each team played 42 games. The two best clubs rose to the Premjer League in 2006 , while the last five were relegated to the third-class 2nd division .
Before the season
The rotor Volgograd , relegated from the Premjer League in 2004 , was refused the license for the 1st division on January 31, 2005. The club could sometimes not pay players' salaries and had to relegate to the southern relay of the 2nd division .
Arsenal Tula last season thirteenth, was denied the license for the 1st division on February 17, 2005 for financial reasons and joined the West season in 2005.
The sporty climber from the southern season Dynamo Stavropol and the 17th of last year's 1st division, Chernomorets Novorossiysk, lost their professional status and played in 2005 with the amateurs .
The first of the west squadron Torpedo Wladimir could not meet the requirements of the 1st division and played for another six years in the 2nd division.
In addition to the athletic climbers Fakel Voronezh , Ural Yekaterinburg and Chkalovets-1936 Novosibirsk , the five vacant league places were awarded to the runners-up in the 2nd division: Petrotrest Saint Petersburg (west), Volgar-Gazprom Astrakhan (south), Avangard Kursk (center), Spartak Chelyabinsk (Ural-Volga) and Amur Blagoveschensk (East).
