criticism

In the US, the film received mixed reviews. AO Scott from the New York Times praised the film's relaxed humor, which is characterized by excessive conversations and funny situations. Washington Post's Desson Thomson described the film as a "well-intentioned but failed experiment" because the chemistry between the characters and actors was not right.

In Germany the film was not shown in cinemas, but was released on DVD in 2007, largely unnoticed by the print media. The lexicon of international film sums up: "The sympathetic film, not free of self-references, offers unusual entertainment and stimulates reflection on life in the ghetto."

Awards

The producer Julie Lynn was nominated for the Producers Award of the Independent Spirit Awards in 2007. The National Board of Review rated the film as one of the best independent films of 2006.

Worth mentioning

The film grossed around $ 1.4 million worldwide.

Distribution via the Internet

10 Items or Less is the first production in film history that could be legally downloaded from the Internet while it was being shown in cinemas. American provider ClickStar, a joint venture between Morgan Freeman , producer Lori McCreary and Intel , released a digital copy on December 15, 2006, just 14 days after the cinema premiere. However, the possibility of using the offer has so far been restricted to US users. In its annual review, the American Film Institute rated digital delivery as one of the most significant events in film history in 2006.
