Trivia

During an observation of this star on December 22, 1836, John Herschel believed he saw a faint nebula around it, which later led to the entry NGC 2542 in the New General Catalog . It is possible that he was misled by the companion of the main star, who is only 2 arc seconds away from it and with a brightness difference of 6.5 may have been difficult to separate.
