NGC 2554 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 183 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years across.
Together with IC 2248 , IC 2269 , PGC 23169 , PGC 23193 and PGC 23420 , it forms the NGC 2554 group .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2013gq was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on February 28, 1785 .
