27. Genie Awards

The 27th Genie Awards were presented on February 13, 2007 . Films from the French-speaking province of Québec once again dominated this most important Canadian film award .

All five nominated directors come from there. In the important categories of Best Film and Best Actor , only one of the five nominees came from the English-speaking part of Canada, namely Trailer Park Boys: The Movie and Colm Feore , both of which received nothing. As best leading ladies there were two non-French nominees, namely Sigourney Weaver for Snow Cake and Jodelle Ferland for Tideland , which also were not successful.

With thirteen nominations, the ice hockey film Maurice Richard ( The Rocket ) was at the top. The second favorite was the action comedy Good Cop Bad Cop directed by Eric Canuel, with eleven nominations. A Sunday in Kigali ( Un dimanche a Kigali ) by Robert Favreau, a love drama during the genocide in Rwanda , was nominated eight times . In the English-language films was Tideland by Terry Gilliam nominated six times. Julia Kwan's first feature film, Eve and the Fire Horse , also had six nominations.

As a prize winner for Best Picture was Good Cop Bad Cop excellent. Winning the Golden Reel Award was certain because of the financial success, otherwise the film only won for Best Sound . The ice hockey film Maurice Richard ( The Rocket ) was awarded nine times the most, u. a. Charles Binamé for Best Director , Roy Dupuis for Best Actor , Julie Le Breton for Best Actress and Stephen McHattie for Best Supporting Actor . Carrie-Anne Moss named Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Taste of Snow . The Claude Jutra Award was first shared in 2007.
