The Aérospatiale SE.3130 to SA-318C Alouette II is a French- made helicopter . It was one of the first series-produced helicopters since the development of airworthy and usable helicopters with gas turbine engines .

The Alouette (French for lark ) II Sud-Est SE.3130 is powered by a Turboméca Artouste II, the Sud-Aviation SA-318C by an Astazou IV . The manufacturer consortium Aérospatiale produced the Alouette II with a skid landing gear, three-blade main rotor and a two-blade tail rotor .
Except for a few struts for stabilization, the cabin, which is not spatially separated from the cockpit, is fully glazed. The fuselage frame and the tail boom are made of tubular steel frame construction and are not clad. The lack of cladding gives a clear view and easy access to the drive elements behind the pulpit. The Alouette was widely used and used in the military and civil sectors for passenger transport and as an observer, but above all in flight training (mainly due to the design with only one engine for performing autorotations ). In the past, they were also used to transport patients in air rescue , but rather sporadically due to the limited space available.
The Alouette II was the first helicopter model to be used by numerous German police helicopter squadrons, including for operations management and border surveillance by the Federal Border Guard (now the Federal Police , until the end of 2007), the German Federal Armed Forces (until the beginning of 2008), the Swiss companies Air Zermatt and Air-Glaciers (especially the successor model Lama ), the Swiss Air Force , the Turkish Police , the French and Belgian Armed Forces and the Argentine Air Force .
The Alouette II is particularly suitable for the training of young pilots because the manual indirect control forgives control errors and flying without automatic, i. H. with non-stabilized control. Flight stabilizing elements, as they can be found in modern twin-engine helicopters, are missing in the Alouette II. This means that the pilot has to handle the control elements very carefully and consciously and thus gets a good feeling of how the machine reacts to the operation of the control elements .
