The Athens ATP tournament (officially Athens Open , most recently Athens International ) is a former men's tennis tournament that was held in the Greek capital from 1986 to 1994 . The game was played outdoors on clay courts, the venue was the Athens Lawn Tennis Club , where the tennis competition of the 1896 Summer Olympics was held. The tournament was part of the ATP World Series , the predecessor of the ATP World Tour 250 . The record winner is the Spaniard Jordi Arrese , who won the individual competition twice, while the Spaniard Javier Sánchez is the record winner in doubles, also with two titles.

Since 2008 a tournament has been held in Athens under the name Status Athens Open as part of the ATP Challenger Tour . However, the game is played on outdoor hard courts and no longer in the Athens Lawn Tennis Club , but in the Olympic Tennis Center in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex , where the 2004 Summer Olympics were held.
