Abbotsford is a city in Canada , in the province of British Columbia . Another name of the city is Matsqui . Abbotsford is the largest city in the province that does not belong to Metro Vancouver .
geography
Abbotsford is located in the west of the country, on the edge of the so-called Lower Mainland of British Columbia, just north of the border with the US state of Washington and south of the Fraser River . Mission is north of the Fraser River . The neighboring parish to the east is Langley , while Chilliwack is adjacent to the west. With an area of 375.55 km² Abbotsford is the largest parish in British Columbia. The distance to Vancouver is approximately 70 km.

The last official census , the 2016 Census , showed a population of 141,397 inhabitants for the settlement, after the 2011 census still showed a population of 133,497 inhabitants for the municipality. Compared to the last census in 2011, the population increased by 5.9% and thus developed slightly faster than the provincial average, there with a population increase of 5.6%. In the census period from 2006 to 2011, too, the number of inhabitants in the city grew slightly faster than the provincial average at 7.4%, there with an increase of 7.0%.
At the 2016 census, the average age of the residents was 39.9 years, well below the provincial average of 42.3 years. The median age of the residents was determined to be 39.0 years. The median age of all residents in the province in 2016 was 43.0 years. For the 2011 census, a median age of 37.9 years was determined for the inhabitants of the municipality and 41.9 years for the inhabitants of the province.
For the greater Abbotsford Mission area, the 2016 census showed a population of 180,518 inhabitants and thus a population increase of 6.1%.

The granting of local self-government for the settlement took place on February 22, 1922 ( incorporated as Village Municipality ). On November 17, 1972, the status of the settlement then changed to that of a District Municipality and on January 1, 1995 finally to that of a City .
economy
The average income of Abbotsford workers in 2005 was a below average salary of C $ 22,990 , while at the same time the average for the entire province of British Columbia was C $ 24,867. The income gap between men (C $ 30,786; provincial average = C $ 31,598) and women (C $ 17,888; provincial average = C $ 19,997) is slightly larger in Abbotsford than in the income comparison for the entire province.
The most important areas of employment are trade and the manufacturing sector.

Abbotsford is on Highway 1 , the Trans-Canada Highway . You can also take Highway 11 north to Mission and south to the United States .
Abbotsford Airport is located around four kilometers southwest of the city center and is served by several charter airlines. The Abbotsford International Airshow , one of the most important air shows in the country , has been held at the airport in August since 1962 .
