history

  • around 1120 - Heinrich and Rapoto von Schwarzenburg-Nöstach found a monk's cell, which was subsequently expanded into a monastery with monks from Göttweig . Funding of the foundation u. a. by Margravine Agnes, the previously assumed founding role Margrave Leopold III. is no longer historically tenable.
  • 1782 - The monastery was closed in the course of the Josephine reforms and then administered by various other monasteries or, most recently, by the Imperial and Royal State Property Administration.
  • 1825 - The monastery and its goods were auctioned off. Several owners followed who used the monastery as a castle. The former collegiate church became a parish church.
  • 1998 - After a general renovation by the Archdiocese of Vienna and private and public support, the church was returned to its intended purpose and consecrated. The current building ensemble corresponds to the most modern ideas of restoration and monument protection and is therefore not only a religious center, but also an architectural total work of art. • 2005 - Inauguration of the new monastery of the community of the "Samaritan Brothers of the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary" from Poland, a branch of the "Samaritan Movement of Mary" by the Archbishop of Vienna.
