Adam Christoph von Flanß
Adam Christoph von Flanß (born July 4, 1664 in Wittbrietzen in the Mittelmark , † June 10, 1748 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian field marshal , governor of Memel , member of the tobacco college of Friedrich Wilhelm I and a knight of the Order of the Black Eagle and the Order of St. John .
Life
origin
Adam Christoph came from the ancient Flanß family . His parents were Adam Ehrentreich von Flanß and his wife Magdalena von Flanß from the Wittbrietzen family . The family owned Baumgarten in the Ruppin district as well as Groß-Ziethen and Klein-Ziethen in Teltow .
Military career
In 1674 he came into the household of the Brandenburg general von Wangenheim , where he stayed until 1680. He went to the "von Dönhoff" infantry regiment . On September 6, 1694, he was appointed captain and retired there. He provided a regiment of 25 men at his own expense and was taken back into the army as their captain. In 1698 he was involved in a commando company in Elbing . He and three other officers had sneaked into town to open the gates for Prussian troops . The elector wanted to put the Polish government under pressure to get back borrowed money.
During the War of the Spanish Succession , he was promoted to major on August 8, 1705 . He was wounded during the siege of Lille (1708) . On August 10, 1709 he became lieutenant colonel and on June 5, 1718 colonel . In 1723 he became governor of Fehrbellin and Alt Ruppin . In 1728 he took over the infantry regiment "von Dohna" . In the same year he bought the Schönwalde estate, which he later gave to his daughter as a dowry. Since 1731 major general , he took part in the Rhine campaign in 1734/35 under General Erhard Ernst von Röder . In 1736 he becomes governor of the fortress Memel. In June 1740 he received the Order of the Black Eagle. In the First Silesian War , Flanß marched with 12,000 men in the battle of Chotusitz . On May 25, 1743 he was promoted to general of the infantry and on March 18, 1745 to field marshal.
After his death in Königsberg, he was buried on the estate of his in-laws in Mühlhausen .
The king liked to play toccadille with him . In cases of illness, Flanß brought the game for the kitchen. Together with Wilhelm Dietrich von Buddenbrock , he was able to rehabilitate Hans Joachim von Zieten , who had fallen out of favor with King Friedrich II . Zieten later became one of the king's few personal friends.
family
He had been married to Amalie Charlotte von Kalkstein from the House of Mühlhausen since 1709 . She was the daughter of Christoph Albrecht von Kalkstein, Herr auf Knauten and Wogau , and his wife Marie Agnes, née von Lehwaldt .
The couple had the following children:

- Friedrich Wilhelm (* / † 1712)
- Adam Christoph (1713–1738), Knight of the Order of St. John
- Johanna Charlotte (1718–1732)
General Kurt Friedrich von Flanß is the son of his brother Henning Ehrenreich von Flanß. Field Marshal General Christoph Wilhelm von Kalckstein was his wife's brother.
