history

The village of Neftenbach 1781

In Roman times there was a Roman estate in Steinmöri below the cemetery on Sattleracherstrasse and Aspacherstrasse , which is now overbuilt. During the excavations in 1986, a coin hoard with 1243 Roman silver coins from AD 197–265 was discovered in a bronze vessel.

The first written mention of Neftenbach took place in 1209, when a people priest from "Neftimbach" was involved in a legal transaction. The cellar of the Frohhof in Neftenbach still indicates a residential tower that stood there. He probably belonged to the ministerial family "von Neftenbach", which was first mentioned in 1267 and at that time were probably followers of the Kyburg family . The sex itself can be proven in various places up to 1468. The area later belonged to the barons of Wart , whose coat of arms has been the official municipal coat of arms since 1921. In May 1799 there was a clash between French and Austrians near the village during the battle near Winterthur , which is still reminiscent of a stray bullet in the church choir.
