Aida Emilewna Garifullina ( Russian Аида Эмилевна Гарифуллина ; Tatar Аида Эмил кызы Гарифуллина / Aida Emil Qizi Ğärifullina * thirtieth September 1987 in Kazan , Tatar ASSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian opera singer ( soprano ). In 2014 she became a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera . In 2017 she also received Austrian citizenship.
Life
education
Aida Garifullina was musically supported in childhood by her mother, a choir conductor. When she was five, she entered a televised competition in Moscow. At the age of eleven she took singing lessons at the conservatory in her hometown, at 13 she was named Voice of the Year in the academic voice competition. At the age of 16 Garifullina came to Vienna for the first time to take part in Siegfried Jerusalem 's master class . After graduating from school in 2005, she began studying singing with Jerusalem at the Nuremberg Academy of Music . Two years later she moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , where she studied with Claudia Visca and graduated in 2011.
Operatic career
In 2012 she sang for the first time in the Arena of Verona , in January 2013 she made her debut at the Mariinsky Theater as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro at the invitation of Valery Gergiev . In August 2013 Garifullina took first place in the Operalia singing competition founded by Plácido Domingo in 1993 .
At the beginning of the 2014/15 season she became a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera , where she played the role of Musetta in La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini , as Zerlina ( Don Giovanni ), Clorinda ( La cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini ), Eudoxie ( La Juive by Jacques Fromental Halévy ) and Adina in L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti sang or sings.
She became known to a broad television audience in 2015 as part of the broadcasts of the Vienna Opera Ball and the Dresden Opera Ball .
In January 2015 she signed an exclusive contract with Decca Classics .
At the Vienna State Opera Garifullina took on one of the leading roles in the Russian-language performance of the opera Tri sestry by the Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös (world premiere in 1998 at the Opéra de Lyon under the title “Trois sœurs”, libretto based on Anton Chekhov's play Three Sisters ).
In the 2016 film Florence Foster Jenkins about the singer of the same name , Garifullina played Lily Pons .
In January 2017 she sang Juliette in Gounods Roméo et Juliette at the Vienna State Opera alongside Juan Diego Florez as Roméo. In June 2017 she opened the Grafenegg Festival alongside Dmitri Hvorostovsky with the Summer Night Gala . In 2017 she also sang the role of Snegurotschka in Snow Maiden and Musetta in La Bohème at the Opéra National de Paris . In early 2018 she made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona as Juliette alongside Saimir Pirgu as Roméo in Roméo et Juliette and at the Metropolitan Opera as Zerlina in Don Giovanni .
On June 14, 2018, she appeared next to Robbie Williams at the opening of the final round of the 2018 World Cup in the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium . At the Salzburg Festival she sang in 2018 in a concert performance of Les Pecheurs de perles alongside Plácido Domingo as Zurga the role of Leïla. In the published in October 2018 album Si by Andrea Bocelli it is together with Bocelli with Ave Maria Pietas heard. In April 2019 she made her debut at the Berlin State Opera as Luisa in Betrothal in a Monastery by Sergei Prokofiev .
In February 2020 she sang for the second time after 2015 at the opening of the Vienna Opera Ball.
