Alain Journet

Alain Journet (born June 25, 1941 in Le Vigan ) is a former French politician. He was a member of the National Assembly from 1981 to 1993 and a member of the Senate from 1998 to 2008 .

Journet was a professional mathematician until he moved to the General Council of the Gard department in 1973 . In 1977 he became mayor of his hometown Le Vigan, which he remained until 2001. In 1981 he was elected to the National Assembly, where he joined the PS group. He was re-elected in 1986 and 1988. In 1994 he became President of the General Council. He held this office until 2001. He was elected to the Senate in 1998, but did not stand for re-election in 2008.
