André Rouvière

André Rouvière (born April 29, 1936 in Bessèges , France ; † November 2, 2015 ibid) was a French politician. He was a member of the Senate from 1980 to 2008 .

Rouvière was a full-time teacher. At the age of 29 he became a member of the Bessèges municipal council . Two years later he became mayor of the village and won a seat on the General Council of the Gard department . From 1973 to 1998 he was its vice-president. In 1980 he entered the Senate for the Parti socialiste in the Gard department . He was re-elected in 1989 and 1998, but did not run for re-election in 2008. In 2011 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
