Edgar Tailhades

Edgar Tailhades (born January 12, 1904 in Riols , † June 23, 1986 in Nîmes ) was a French politician. He was a member of the Senate from 1948 to 1986 .

Tailhades studied in Montpellier and after completing his studies went to Nîmes as a lawyer. In 1925 he became a member of the SFIO and moved into the city council. The following year he became general secretary of their youth organization for south-east France. In 1947 he was elected Mayor of Nîmes, an office he held in 1953 and 1959. In 1948 he also moved to the Senate, where he was responsible for national security and repairing war damage. He remained a senator until his death in 1986.
