Francis Cavalier-Bénézet

Francis Cavalier-Bénézet (born January 22, 1922 in Valleraugue ( Gard ); † September 7, 2014 ibid) was a French politician and a member of the Senate from 1992 to 1998 .

Cavalier-Bénézet was a farmer by profession . From 1953 to 2001 he was mayor of the municipality of Valleraugue and from 1959 to 2008 he sat on the General Council of the Gard department . From 1972 to 1992 he was also a member of the Regional Council of the Languedoc-Roussillon region . In 1992 he replaced the resigned Gilbert Baumet as senator and belonged to the faction of the Parti socialiste in the Senate . He did not run for re-election in the 1998 elections. In 2001 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
