The Albus Salzburg Verkehrsbetrieb GmbH is a transport company in the province of Salzburg and as such in the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund  integrated (SIA).

The abbreviation stands for Autobus -Linien-Betriebs-Unternehmen Salzburg , the company headquarters is Salzburg - Maxglan . Albus is a joint subsidiary of the Vienna bus company Dr. Richard (51 percent) and the local infrastructure company Salzburg AG (49 percent).

Albus is an important part of public transport in the city of Salzburg and its surroundings. The Albus lines, most of the local public transport buses, are an important addition to the Salzburg S-Bahn and the Salzburg trolleybus operated by Salzburg AG.

history

The Albus company was founded in 1928 and operated the so-called Taxham Line for many years , as well as another line to Siezenheim. Modern coaches were also operated for individual long-distance and local excursion traffic, and city tours were also held in minibuses. The open-top bus, for example, is legendary and after the Gaisbergbahn was closed and the road was built in the 1930s, it went from Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz to Gaisberg.

In 1986 Albus joined the Austrian transport company Dr. Richard , in 1992 the Salzburger Kraftwagen-Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (travel service and regular services), in short Salzkraft , founded in 1927, was founded by Dr. Richard taken over and united with Albus. Albus also took over the Josef Stadlbauer bus company from Anif, known for the line to Grödig-Gartenau, from where the cable car leads to the Untersberg .

In 2001 Albus took over the long-standing company Autobusbetrieb Marazeck  GmbH of the Salzburg bus operator Hannes Marazeck.

On October 1, 2005, Salzburg AG became a partner in the Albus company, the aim of the merger was to use synergies. With the following timetable change in December 2005, Albus finally took over all bus routes and all diesel buses from Salzburg AG. Since then, it has operated exclusively trolleybuses and local rail transport under the marketing name StadtBus Salzburg . The operating facilities were moved from Schallmoser Hauptstraße to Julius-Welser-Straße and have been operated under the name Buscenter Albus - Salzkraft since then.

In 2012 Albus litigated with Hannes Marazeck, who had meanwhile founded the company SalzburgBus  GmbH (line 29 and an oldtimer line), about the joint use of the stops.
