Friedrich Heinrich Alexander von Eckartsberg (born January 31, 1815 in Glogau , † May 19, 1896 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the 22nd Infantry Brigade and legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Alexander was the eldest son of the district administrator of the district of Glogau as well as Mr. on Kunzendorf, Greiff and Neudecke Karl Heinrich von Eckartsberg (1778-1852) and his first wife Karoline, née Trautvetter (1783-1824).

Military career

Eckartsberg first attended high school in Glogau and graduated from the Knights' Academy in Liegnitz in 1829/30 . Finally, on April 21, 1831, he joined the 5th Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a volunteer . On August 15, 1832 he came to the Guards Artillery Brigade and on December 20, 1833 as a non-commissioned officer in the 25th Infantry Regiment . By mid-January 1836 he advanced to the position of redundant second lieutenant and was classified on July 12, 1836 with a patent from January 22, 1836. From July to December 1840 Eckartsberg was assigned to the rifle factory in Saarn and then from October 1841 for three years for further training at the General War School. In 1845 he was assigned to the 4th Dragoon Regiment . On January 23, 1847 he was transferred to the 6th Infantry Regiment with a patent from September 10, 1847 . From the end of March 1847 to April 1853 he was in command as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 6th Landwehr Regiment in Fraustadt . During this time he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 30, 1848 and took part in the battle at Xions in the same year during the suppression of the Polish uprising in the province of Posen . After Eckartsberg was promoted to captain at the end of June 1852 , he was appointed company commander in the 6th Infantry Regiment. As a major and commander of the III. Battalions in the 2nd Landwehr Regiment were used in Anklam on January 18, 1859 . On May 8, 1860, he was charged with leading the Fusilier Battalion in the 2nd Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 5th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 42 emerged in early July 1860 . On April 3, 1866 Eckartsberg was appointed commander of the 4th Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 63 in Neisse and promoted to colonel on June 8, 1866 . During the war against Austria , his regiment initially formed the garrison of the fortresses Neisse and Glatz, and it was not until the beginning of July 1866 that the 1st and 2nd battalions moved to Bohemia, where, however, there were only individual skirmishes . During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , he was appointed commander of the 22nd Infantry Brigade on July 18, 1870 and promoted to major general on July 26, 1870. Eckartsberg led his large association in the siege of Pfalzburg , Toul and Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he said goodbye after the Peace of Frankfurt due to illness and was put up for disposal on October 21, 1871 with the award of the Red Eagle Order 2nd class with oak leaves with a pension .
