Karl Christian Gerdus Alfred von Krohn (born April 23, 1820 in Rendsburg , † June 27, 1877 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Alfred was a son of the Holstein major general and minister of war August von Krohn (1781-1856) and Margaret, born Thomsen († 1885). He married Mathilde Freiin Braun von Wartenberg (1839–1922) in 1863 . The marriage resulted in three daughters and one son.

Career

Krohn received elementary instruction in Schleswig from 1825 and private tuition in Neumünster from 1831 , before moving to high school in Copenhagen in 1832 . In 1833 he was already a cadet in Copenhagen, but in 1835 he received private lessons again in Schleswig and Flensburg .

In 1837 he joined as a fusilier in the 27th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. In 1838 he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich and in 1839 was redundant and in 1841/1842 regular second lieutenant . From 1845 to 1848 he was assigned to the General War School, where in 1846 he was briefly in the 10th Hussar Regiment and the 2nd Artillery Brigade. He took part in the suppression of the street fighting in Berlin and was in command in the same year for the duration of the Schleswig-Holstein uprising to the 2nd Holstein Infantry Regiment. In 1850 he received his departure from Prussian service to enable him to transfer to the Schleswig-Holstein Army .

In 1852 he was re-employed as prime lieutenant in the 27th Infantry Regiment, and in 1853 he was again sent to the General War School. Krohn was assigned to the topographic office in 1853 . From May 1856 to March 1858 he was company commander in the 1st Battalion of the 27th Landwehr Regiment, but rose to captain in October 1856 . In 1858 he moved as a company commander to the 1st Jäger Battalion with a patent from 1853, again to Jäger Battalion No. 6 in 1860 and finally in 1861 was promoted to major in Infantry Regiment No. 24. Krohn took an active part in the German-Danish War in 1864. In the battle of Missunde he led the Fusilier Battalion of the 4th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 24 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle IV class with swords on March 10, 1864, and on June 7, 1864 for his conduct as leader of Assault Column No. . V awarded the medal Pour le Mérite during the storming of the Düppeler Schanzen . His promotion to lieutenant colonel was immediately followed by participation in the German war .

As a colonel , he was in command of Fusilier Regiment No. 86 from March 22, 1868 to April 26, 1869 . He was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on November 18, 1860.
