history

The place was first mentioned in 1138 as "Berga". At that time it was the seat of the von Berg ministerial family. From 1232 the place was called "Hertingisperge". The defining word of the place name is the personal name Harting. The form “alten perg” first appeared in 1352, when the castle was already destroyed.

At the end of the 18th century there were 6 properties in Altenberg. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach judge's office in Roßtal . The authority of the monastery of St. Klara in the imperial city of Nuremberg was in charge of the village and community . The landlords were the St. Klara monastery office (1 courtyard, 2 half-courtyards, 1 estate) and the Nuremberg owners of Harsdorf (1 courtyard), von Pömer and vonakenofelholz together (1 courtyard). In 1799 there were 5 properties in the village.

As part of the community edict, Altenberg was assigned to the Oberasbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Oberasbach , which was founded in the same year .
