Alter Markt is a district of the city of Saalfeld / Saale in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Saalfeld's Alter Markt is located west of the Saale , south of the castle park and north of the hall gate . In the remaining Saale floodplain, there are trees on meadows and then a residential area adjoins.

history

The old market goes back to a Benedictine monastery founded in 1071 by Archbishop Anno II of Cologne , which had the hunting and clearing rights. In 1074, when the market rights were granted, the municipality of Alter Markt was established . In 1863 the district was officially incorporated into Saalfeld.
