history

The first documentary mention of the forest hoof village Am Frühlingsberg, which is typical for the region, dates back to 1487, when the place was named Windischen Soldende . The place name is probably from the Sorbian derived "Załom", meaning "(Wendish / Sorbian) Village behind the swamp". The village complex as a Waldhufendorf as well as the first mention suggest a Franconian town founded in the 13th or 14th century. The townscape of Am Frühlingsberg is mainly characterized by half-timbered houses .

Over time, the Wendisch-Sohland, which was later used, developed from the place name . The village first belonged to the Oppach manor , which was subordinate to the Bautzner district. Wendisch-Sohland was later administered by its own manor. In 1777 there were five possessed men , 18 gardeners and nine cottagers ; one homestead was uncultivated. In 1834 there were 442 inhabitants in Wendisch-Sohland, most of whom were of Protestant denomination. In 1856, Wendisch-Sohland belonged to the Schirgiswalde court office and from 1875 to the Bautzen administration . In 1877 the community Wendisch-Sohland was dissolved and merged with the then communities Äußerstmittelsohland , Äußerstniedersohland , Carlsruhe , Ellersdorf, Neudorf , Neumittelsohland , Neuobersohland and Neusorge to the new community Sohland an der Spree .

In 1938, Wendisch-Sohland was renamed "Am Frühlingsberg" in the course of the National Socialist Germanization of place names in Lausitz . The name is a new creation, inspired by the location of the place. After the end of the Second World War , the renaming was not reversed in contrast to most of the other renamed villages in Lusatia. In the district reform in East Germany in July 1952, the municipality of Sohland an der Spree was the district Bautzen in the Dresden district assigned. After the reunification , Am Frühlingsberg was initially in the old district of Bautzen , which merged in 2008 with the district of Kamenz to form today's district of Bautzen .
