Amandus Eberhard Rodatz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amandus Eberhard Rodatz (born February 1, 1775 in Hamburg ; † December 27, 1836 there ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Born in Hamburg, Rodatz moved to Ludwigslust with his parents in 1778 . His father, the businessman Rudolf Johann Jacob Rodatz († 1802), was Hautboist in the Leib-Grenadier-Regiment of Duke Friedrich von Mecklenburg-Schwerin . When the duke died in 1785, he moved to the court orchestra, where he was promoted to court musician under the court conductor Antonio Rosetti in 1790 . Rodatz also devoted himself to music and in 1785 at the age of 10 went to Perleberg and later to Bergedorf , where he completed his music studies under the direction of the organist Albert Jacob Steinfeld .

After his training, Rodatz became organist at the Hamburg Cathedral , which was secularized in 1803 , whereby he lost his position. Therefore he worked as a piano , guitar and singing teacher and took over several small organist positions one after the other. Eventually he was given the position of organist at the main church of Sankt Katharinen . Rodatz administered this office until the end of his life. He suffered in 1836 during his organ playing for worship extract the second Christmas day a stroke and died the next day of its consequences.

Rodatz belonged to a Hamburg Masonic lodge and wrote a cantata on the mourning lodge. His processing of the texts of the Freemason Joachim Lorenz Evers and the examination of his question: "What is man?" Indicate his affiliation with Freemasonry . Rodatz was best known for his arrangements for guitar and piano. He also wrote various compositions for romantic songs as well as folk and drinking songs .

family

Rodatz was married to Johann Diederich Boetefeur (1739-1823), the only daughter of the church official at the main church Sankt Katharinen. His daughter Marie Emilie married the language teacher at the Johanneum School of Academics Jacob Gallois (1793–1872) in 1814 , and was the mother of Johann Gustav Gallois (1815–1872).
