Amphoe Khanom ( Thai : อำเภอ ขนอม ) is the northernmost administrative district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the Nakhon Si Thammarat province . The province of Nakhon Si Thammarat is located in the southern region of Thailand , about 780 km south of Bangkok on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula to the Gulf of Thailand .

geography

The district is in the north of the province. To the west lies the Surat Thani province , to the north and east lies the Gulf of Thailand. Neighboring counties (clockwise from the south): the Amphoe Sichon in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Amphoe Don Sak in Surat Thani.

Most of the coast is in the National Park Hat Khanom - Mu Ko Thale Tai . The 316 km² park consists of a series of beaches wedged between the limestone and slate mountains of the Nakhon Si Thammarat mountain range . Of the beaches, the Had Nai Plao is the most popular, in the hills there are some caves, such as the Tham Khao Wang Thong ( ถ้ำ เขา วังทอง ). The highest hills in the district are the Khao Luang ( เขา หลวง , also called Khao Phra เขา พระ ) with 814 meters, the Khao Phlao ( เขา เพลา ) with about 500 meters and the Khao Dat Fa ( เขา ดาดฟ้า ) with 732 meters on the southeast Border to Sichon, as well as the Khao Chai Son ( เขา ไชย สน ) with 535 meters near the city of Khanom.

history

As early as 1365 a city ( Mueang ) called Tranom ( ตระ น อม ) was founded here, which was part of the kingdom of Nakhon Si Thammarat . In the thesaphiban administrative reform at the beginning of the 20th century, it became a tambon of Sichon County.

On March 1, 1939, it was promoted to a subdistrict ( King Amphoe ) , which consisted of the two Tambon Khanom and Thong Nian. The subdistrict was elevated to an amphoe on December 11, 1959.

On December 25, 1963, a third tambon , Khuan Thong, was established, consisting of three muban from Thong Nian and two muban from Khanom.

On December 28, 1945 the sanitary district ( Sukhaphiban ) Khanom was established, which was officially announced on January 28, 1957. This was declared a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) on May 25, 1999 when all sanitary districts in the county were upgraded to towns.

economy

As part of the One Tambon One Product campaign , “shrimp chili paste”, dried bananas and fish sauce are produced in the district.

Attractions

Wat Kradang-Nga ( วัด กระดังงา ) is the oldest Buddhist temple ( Wat ) in the district, it was founded during the Ayutthaya period .

Local administration

There are three small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:

Khanom ( เทศบาล ตำบล ขนอม ) consists of 1.76 km² of the Tambon Khanom.
Thong Nian ( เทศบาล ตำบล ท้อง เนียน ) consists of the entire Tambon Thong Nian.
Ao Khanom ( เทศบาล ตำบล อ่าว ขนอม ) consists of further parts of the Tambon Khanom.

Tambon Khuan Thong is administered by a "Tambon Administrative Organization" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
