history
In 1906 Tambon Ku Rae was separated from Thung Song district and made a subdistrict ( King Amphoe ) Ku Rae. When the administration was moved to Tambon Tha Yang in 1909, the subdistrict was renamed Tha Yang after the central tambon . When Tha Yang was to be promoted to an Amphoe on April 1, 1961, the name Tha Yang was already given to a district in Phetchaburi Province . So it was called Thung Yai after another tambon .
