Andrea Maria Dusl (born August 12, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian - Swedish film director , author and illustrator .

Life

Andrea Maria Dusl was born into an Austrian-Swedish family of architects and entrepreneurs. She is the daughter of the Austrian architect Erwin Heinz Dusl and sister of Peter Dusl and great-niece of Theodor Scheimpflug . She grew up in Sweden, Bad Aussee and Vienna. In 1980 she graduated from Wasagasse grammar school in Vienna .

From 1981 to 1985 she studied with Lois Egg at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the master class for stage design , where she was awarded the degree Magistra Artium in 1985. From 1993 to 1997 he studied medicine at the University of Vienna .

1982 to 1989 engagements at the Burgtheater , Akademietheater under George Tabori , Theater an der Wien , Theater in der Josefstadt and the Vienna State Opera .

Since 1985 she has been writing and drawing for Austrian publications such as FORVM (first parts of the endless drawing Das Unendliche Panorama ), profil , News , Format , Der Standard , Kurier and Salzburger Nachrichten . From 1996 the weekly columns Comandantina Dusilova and Ask Ms. Andrea appear in the Viennese city newspaper Falter .

1989-2006, she spent researching her film Blue Moon by the Czech Republic , the Slovak Republic , Poland , the Ukraine , Russia and France .

Numerous lectures, readings, presentations, panel discussions and moderations at Austrian and international conferences, symposia on the topics of film, scripts, political and cultural communication complement her filmic and literary work.

In 2006, Dusl moderated the monthly discourse event Redezeit in Vienna's Rabenhof Theater .

Dusl has been a board member of the Austrian Film Director Association since 2003 . In 2007 she was its chairwoman. From 2005 to 2009 Dusl was a member of the selection committee of the Austrian Film Institute for directing .

In 2009 Dusl began studying philosophy for a doctoral thesis with Ernst Strouhal at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In the winter of 2013 she submitted her dissertation, in January 2014 she received her doctorate in philosophy with excellent results. The title of the dissertation was: Admission and Selection. Strategies of Photographic Practice . In this cultural studies thesis, Dusl deals with the example of seven film interviews conducted specifically for the work - the photographers Lukas Beck , Hertha Hurnaus , Manfred Klimek , Erich Lessing , Ingo Pertramer , Lisl Ponger and Peter Rigaud - with the holistic process of Recording and selection in professional artistic photography. Dusl interpolates six strategies of photographic practice from the hermeneutically evaluated material: "The shaking of the kaleidoscope", "The hunt", "The catch", "The staging", "Serendipity" and "The little bell of Cairo".
