Andreas Bernard (born June 9, 1990 in Bolzano ) is an Italian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Porin Ässät from the Finnish Liiga since 2015 . His brother Anton Bernard is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Andreas Bernard began his career as an ice hockey player at HC Neumarkt , for whose first team he was active in the A2 series from 2006 to 2008 . The goalkeeper then received a contract with HC Bozen from his hometown for the 2008/09 season , for whose professional team he stood between the posts in four games in the A1 series . In addition, he played in five games for SV Kaltern ice hockey in the A2 series in the further course of the season . In the summer of 2009, the Italian moved to the youth department of the Finnish first division club SaiPa Lappeenranta , for whose professional team he played in four games in the Liiga in the 2010/11 season, parallel to the game with the A-Juniors . He was able to convince with an average of 2.51 goals per game and a catch rate of 92.5 percent. In the 2011/12 season he played as the second goalkeeper behind the experienced Finn Jere Myllyniemi in the SM-liiga for SaiPa, but was also loaned out for a game to Rovaniemen Kiekko from the third-class Suomi-sarja . He spent the 2012/13 season with Mikkelin Jukurit in the second-rate Mestis , which he won with the club from South Savo . He himself was elected to the Mestis' best goalkeeper and to the First All Star team with the best catch rate and the lowest average goal conceded. After the promotion to the Liiga was missed by a 1: 4 series against the bottom of the table Tampereen Ilves , Bernard returned to SaiPo. He was still only a substitute goalkeeper there, now behind oldie Jussi Markkanen . He also played individual games on loan for the Mestis clubs Savonlinnan Pallokerho , KooKoo and Heinolan Peliitat . In 2015 he moved to Porin Ässät within the Liiga , where he is a regular goalkeeper.

International

For Italy, Bernard took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in Division I 2007 and 2008 , the U20 Junior World Championships in Division II in 2008 and the U20 Junior World Championships in Division I in 2009 and 2010 . At the U20 World Championships in 2009, when he achieved the second-best catch rate and the second-best goal against goals after the Austrian Marco Wieder , and in 2010 he was voted the best goalkeeper in Group B.

At the 2012 World Cup in the top division, he was part of the squad of the Italian men's national team for the first time , but was not used. He was actually used at the World Championships of Division I in 2013 , 2015 , when he was voted the best player of his team, in 2016 and 2018 and the top division in 2014 and 2017 . He also represented his colors in qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
