There he completed his first two appearances in the J20 SuperElit , the highest junior league in Sweden, in the 2012/13 season and was selected in the KHL Junior Draft 2013 in 137th position by SKA Saint Petersburg . In the following year, the defender acted as assistant captain of J20 and established himself in the professional squad of Djurgårdens IF during the season. With this Englund came to 19 missions in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, and prevailed with the team in the subsequent Kvalserien , so that the club rose to the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL). He was then selected in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators in 40th position and signed a new two-year contract with Djurgårdens IF in June 2014.

For the time being, Englund stayed two more years in Sweden, during which the defender was regularly used in the SHL and served as assistant captain of Djurgårdens IF in the 2015/16 season. In addition, he returned to the J20 for a few missions in both seasons and won the J20 SuperElit playoffs twice in a row with the club's junior team. Finally, Englund signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators in April 2016 , who use him with their farm team , the Binghamton Senators , in the American Hockey League at the start of the 2016/17 season . In addition, he was appointed to the Ottawa Senators squad for the first time in December 2016 and subsequently made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL).

He then represented his home country at the U18 World Cup in 2014 and the U20 World Cup in 2015 and 2016 , where he finished fourth with the teams. In addition, the defender played two games on the Euro Hockey Tour in February 2016, making his debut for Sweden's senior team .
