Talla 2XLC (bourgeois Andreas Tomalla , born March 13, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main ) is considered a pioneer and one of the most important trailblazers of the commercial German and international techno / trance scene.
Live and act
After completing his training as an industrial businessman, Tomalla started working in 1983 in the “City-Music” record store below Frankfurt Central Station . There he sorted records with electronically produced music into a separate category and named it “Techno”. With the establishment of techno club in 1984 and his performances he gives for more than thirty years an important impetus for the emergence and development of the German techno -Clublandschaft and the international trance scene.
Talla 2XLC was awarded the plaque of honor of the city of Frankfurt am Main on April 15, 2010 . The then Mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth , stated that he had "carried the name of our city all over the world with his innovative music and promoted Frankfurt's international cultural reputation".
pseudonym
His stage name Talla 2XLC is derived as an abbreviation from his surname and from an ancient cassette mixtape, the technical name of which was "XS60" and came in handy for Talla, since the Talla Vocal Ensemble already existed. The way from “XS60” to “2XLC” was not far, as Talla has always had a weakness for names and technical terms. In order to be recognized by GEMA as an independent artist, Talla chose this addition for his artist alias, which is still known today.
Because the question "What does" 2XLC "mean?" Is one of the most asked questions in his life, there is a fictional anecdote: When he gave an interview for Partysan magazine and he was once again annoyed by the question, he made up the following story: Talla lived in a shared flat with Buddhist monks when he was a student. Since they processed loudly every day in the hallway of the shared apartment, he could never hear the bells. One of the monks took pity on him and carved a doorbell sign for him that read "Talla 2 x LC" (ring twice long). The monk was not particularly proficient in the German language. That's why he abbreviated ringing with "C." The whole thing was just made-up fun, but it was reprinted several times in various magazines at the time.
Under the pseudonym Zyrus 7 he is also active as a psytrance DJ and producer.
Career
Talla started playing in the dance school "Kiel Blell". In the eighties he began producing his own pieces under the project name Axodry and was then able to achieve initial successes with the follow-up projects Two of China and Moskwa TV . His most famous project at the time was Bigod 20 , of which he was the founder. Talla created this name based on his favorite author HP Lovecraft . However, early on Tomalla did not have the commercial focus of other well-known DJs and gave up a relatively large amount of administrative responsibility for the marketing of his work. After the development years of the techno club and his record company "Music-Research", which no longer exist, he withdrew from DJing for some time from 1992 to 1995 with the reason to take more care of his labels and artists. In addition, his definition of techno corresponded to a completely different sound concept. During this time he saw himself mainly in the tradition of EBM , European electropop and industrial . The prevailing definition of techno in the fusion of techno and Afro-American house and disco music did not correspond to his values or he initially rejected it completely.
In the mid-1990s he had a comeback as a DJ and at international raves , where he was able to build on the success of previous years. As a techno club founder and resident of the Frankfurt club Dorian Gray , he was one of the most booked DJs in Germany until the club closed at the end of 2000 . Then Talla appeared increasingly as a remixer of well-known trance acts such as Rank 1 and Darude . To this day, Talla 2XLC has worked as a DJ and remixer together with various producers. His Technoclub CD series in mix / battle / DJ format with a different well-known DJ is well known and commercially successful. He is now represented internationally by the Canadian agency DJlinks, which also manages Johan Gielen , Scot Project and Yoji Biomehanika.

The techno club, which lost its home base with the closure of the Dorian Gray, returned to Frankfurt at the end of 2004 after much ups and downs, where it found a new "home" in the Café Royal every first Friday of the month for a good year. The techno club then moved to the Stocks in downtown Frankfurt at the beginning of September 2005. A year later the techno club found its home base in the Frankfurt club U60311 , from May 2010 in the Monza in the city of Frankfurt, where the times of Dorian Gray were taken up. Two years later, after the club had been converted into a so-called off-location, the company moved to the renowned MTW Club in Offenbach. In addition, it has been booked for years at many major national and international events. Especially in the USA he is touring more and more. In addition, Talla 2XLC plays live sets on its technoclub show on Sunshine live every first Thursday of the month from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Talla 2XLC is still strongly committed to electronic music, especially the trance scene.
The Love Parade was leaning Tomalla due to their commercialization from since 2000th When the leadership of the Love Parade changed and from his point of view the music was back in the foreground, he changed his mind. His application with the techno club for the redesigned 2006 parade was successful a week before the start of the event because they were able to fill in for a failed participant. The voting was determined to 50% by the internet visitors of the organizers and 50% by the club culture bearers of the scene. The Technoclub came in 36th place out of 420 registered participants. In his utterances, Tomalla often points to the commercialization of Techno & Trance, which in his opinion should be viewed critically.
Personal
Talla lives in Frankfurt , is married and has a son. As part of the “Ja-zu-FRA” campaign, Tomalla was shown as a proponent of Frankfurt Airport with nine other people on the “Ja-zu-FRA” fan flyer.
