Anton Lesser (born February 14, 1952 ) is an English actor .

Life

Lesser studied from 1974 to 1977 at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London . As an Associate Artist for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), he has played many of the most difficult roles in William Shakespeare 's work. These included Troilus ( Troilus and Cressida ), Edgar ( King Lear ), Petruchio, Romeo and Richard III.

He regularly speaks roles on English radio and has recorded a large number of audio books, including many works by Charles Dickens , whom he has also played on English television. His recording of Great Expectations earned him a Talkie Award . Other books range from John Milton's Paradise Lost and Homer to contemporary works by Robert Harris and Philip Pullman . In Germany he is mainly known for his role as Levi in the film adaptation of the story of the Strauss family of composers ( The Strauss Dynasty , 1991). His latest appearances on German television are his roles in the series Waking the Dead (ZDF) and as Chief Superintendent Bright in Der Junge Inspektor Morse . He is dubbed as CI Bright by Robert Missler .
