Antonee "Jedi" Robinson (born August 8, 1997 in Milton Keynes , United Kingdom ) is an American - English football player . He began his career in the men's area in the second team of Everton FC , for whom he had previously played in youth. He joined Wigan Athletic in 2018 through Bolton Wanderers . After the bankruptcy and relegation of the club, he moved to Fulham . In the first division he plays as a left full-back . In addition, Robinson has been a national team player in the United States since 2018 .

Career

society

Antonee Robinson began playing football under the encouragement of his father. In 2008 he joined the youth of Liverpool- based Everton FC , where he was active for seven years. In 2015, he was promoted to the club's reserve team, playing 27 games in two years. For the 2017/18 season Robinson reached professional football on loan to second division newcomer Bolton Wanderers . Previously in the matchday squad in five games since the start of the season, he made his debut on 9 September 2017 (6th matchday) in a 3-0 home defeat against Middlesbrough FC . From this point on, Robinson played as a regular on the team in the left defensive and midfield positions and thus in 34 of 50 possible games; He contributed five goal preparations to the success of his team, which only managed to stay in the league as twenty-first on the last day of the game.

After the season there was another loan, this time to the Wanderers ' league competitor , Wigan Athletic , who in turn was promoted to the league in the new season . Once again, Robinson established himself as a regular in the team as a left-back until mid-November 2018. He then suffered an injury to his ankle, which meant that he could not play for ten weeks, the club said. In fact, Robinson's injury spell ran for almost four months to early March 2019, leaving him out of 20 of his club's games and not returning to the field until the last quarter of the season. In the remaining eleven games, his coach relied on Robinson as a regular on the left-back position. Wigan finished the season in 18th place in the table and secured the class as a climber; Robinson was used in 26 of 48 possible games. After his loan expired, Wigan negotiated with Everton about a firm takeover of Robinson. On July 15, 2019, both clubs and Robinson agreed on a fixed arrangement for the player at Wigan Athletic. Even after his final move, Robinson kept his regular place and missed only one of 30 games up to and including January 2020. On November 26, 2019, he scored his first professional football goal in the league game at Millwall FC , when he scored the 2-1 opening goal for his team at 2-2.

On January 30, 2020, the Italian first division club AC Milan approached Wigan Athletic and agreed with the club on Robinson's permanent change again. The next day, Robinson traveled to Milan to undergo a medical examination that revealed no abnormalities. Since the Italians insisted on further investigations, which were no longer feasible by the end of the transfer window until the evening, the change failed; Robinson stayed in Wigan.

Subsequently, Robinson fell out for the following eight season games due to an injury. After the necessary break in the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March , he was back in the team until the end of the season. Wigan sportily reached the 13th place in the league, but the club were deducted 12 points as a result of bankruptcy proceedings, which the club ultimately relegated to the third-rate EFL League One as penultimate . Robinson came in the entire season for Wigan to 39 of 48 possible games, where he was called up 38 times on the starting line-up.

After Wigan's relegation, Robinson moved to Fulham FC in August 2020 , who had been Wigan’s league competitor last season and were promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs . His contract there has a term of four years.

National team

Robinson is eligible to play for both the English and US national teams because of his birth in England and his father's origins . At the age of 17 he played one time for the United States U18 . In March 2018 he received a nomination for the A selection for the first time. He was not used in the game against Paraguay . It wasn't until two months later that he made his debut in a friendly against Bolivia , in which he was called up in the starting line-up and prepared the 3-0 final through Timothy Weah . Since Robinson has only been used in friendlies in seven games for the United States, he can still move to the English association.

Personal

Robinson was born in Milton Keynes , England in August 1997 . His paternal grandmother had previously emigrated to the United States and taken citizenship there . She then settled in White Plains , New York . Robinson's father was later born in New York and attended Duke University in Durham , North Carolina after finishing school, where he played on the university's soccer team, among other things . After his playing days, he worked as a soccer coach. He brought his son Antonee to football when he was five. During this time he received his nickname Jedi , which refers to a faction from the Star Wars film series .
