Joseph Edward Bryan (born September 17, 1993 in Bristol ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the first division club Fulham since August 2018 .

Bryan is known as a versatile player who can take positions across the left field of the field. He comes from the youth academy of Bristol City , where he counted after loan positions at the lower class clubs Bath City and Plymouth Argyle over five seasons to the permanent staff and played over 200 league games for the Robins .

Career

Bristol City

Bryan, who is from the Bristol area , signed his first professional contract with the local club Bristol City in 2011 . In order to collect match practice, he was loaned to the fifth division Bath City on November 24, 2011 for two months . There he came to four league appearances in which he scored a goal. Upon his return, he made his first-team debut on March 6, 2012 in a 3-2 home win over Leicester City . Nevertheless, it was only used sporadically over the next few months.

In March 2013, he moved in a loan deal to the end of the 2012/13 season in the fourth-rate Football League Two to the relegation-threatened club Plymouth Argyle . He scored his first goal in English professional football on April 16, 2013 in a 2-1 away win against Chesterfield FC . Ultimately, the class was held by one point as 21st place. Bryan played all ten remaining games of the season with Plymouth and was mostly used as a left midfielder.

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , he increasingly came to appearances in the starting line-up of Bristol, who had to compete in Football League One in the preseason in the absence of Bryan . In the 2-0 home win against Crawley Town on November 5, 2013, he scored his first league goal in the Robins' shirt . Due to the weak start of the team, the previous coach Sean O'Driscoll was dismissed and his successor Steve Cotterill relied on more experienced staff in the relegation battle. Bryan only made his breakthrough in the 2014/15 season and became the undisputed regular on the left. With his team he won the final of the Football League Trophy 2014/15 against FC Walsall on March 22, 2015 . The south-west of England were also very successful in the league and confidently won the League One championship title and the resulting return to the Football League Championship . Bryan played 50 games this season, scoring seven goals and assisting eleven more.

In June 2015 he signed a new four-year deal with Bristol City. Despite the relegation battle, Bryan kept his place in the starting line-up for the entire 2015/16 season and came to 39 league games in which he scored 10 points. In the next 2016/17 season , he scored a single time in 49 games. The EFL Cup 2017/18 made it to the semi-finals of the cup. Bryan contributed to the semi-finals with important goals in the eighth and quarter-final wins against the Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Manchester United . Also in the league the situation of the Robins improved and they reached the solid 11th place in the table. Bryan appeared in 48 games that season, scoring seven goals and preparing three more.

Fulham FC

After he was previously associated with league rivals Aston Villa , Joe Bryan moved to the Premier League newly promoted Fulham on August 9, 2018 for a transfer fee of 6.7 million euros . He made his league debut for the Cottagers on August 11, 2018 in a 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace. His first goal was the League Cup game against Millwall , which was won 3-1. In the 2018/19 season he made 28 league appearances and had to return to the second division with his club after a year.

On September 27, 2019 (9th matchday), he scored his first league goal for the Cottagers in a 2-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday .
