Harry Nicholas Arter (born December 28, 1989 in Sidcup , England ) is an Irish national football player who has played for the Republic of Ireland since 2015 . Since 2010 he has been under contract with the then English third division AFC Bournemouth , with whom he was promoted to the second division in 2013 and the Premier League in 2015 .
Club career
Born in the London borough of Sidcup , Arter began playing football for the London club Charlton Athletic . His only professional appearance for the club he had at the age of 17 on September 25, 2007 in the League Cup against Luton Town , when he was substituted on at 1: 3 after extra time in the 86th minute.
In the 2008/09 season he was first awarded to Staines Town , a club that plays in the Isthmian League , a regional amateur league. He was then awarded to the sixth division Welling United .
For the 2009/10 season he moved to sixth division FC Woking , for whom he scored four goals in 36 league games. As fifth, they initially missed direct promotion and then failed in the final of the promotion play-offs.
Arter then moved to the third division newcomer AFC Bournemouth , but was loaned to the league rivals Carlisle United after 13 games . After five games he returned to the "Cherries" and came to five more missions. As sixth they missed direct promotion and then failed in the semi-finals of the promotion play-offs. In the next season , as eleventh, she had nothing to do with promotion, which then succeeded in 2012/13 as runner-up. In the first second division season they reached a safe midfield position. In 2014/15 he was promoted to the Premier League as a second division champion , to which he contributed nine goals in 43 games. In the Premier League they were able to avoid relegation back to the 2nd division as 16th. In the FA Cup 2015/16 he failed with Bournemouth in the fifth main round at league rivals FC Everton and in the league cup in the round of 16 at Liverpool FC .
For the 209/20 season he was awarded to the second division club FC Fulham , trained by his brother-in-law .
National team
Born in England, Arter is internationally eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland due to his grandparents, who were born in Sligo , Ireland. He went through the Irish junior teams U-17 and U-19. In March 2015 he received his first invitation to an international match of the senior national team as part of the European Championship qualification against Poland . But then he just sat on the bench. It was not until June 7 that he played half an hour in the 0-0 friendly against England . He was then called up for the playoff games in the European Championship qualification against Bosnia and Herzegovina , but was not used and his teammates managed to qualify for the European Championship finals without his participation.
On May 12, 2016 he was appointed by national coach Martin O'Neill in the provisional 35-player squad for the EM . He was then used in the penultimate test match before the final squad nomination against the Netherlands , where he was in the starting eleven, but ultimately not considered for the European Championship finals.
In the qualification for the 2018 World Cup , which began after the EM , he was used in five group matches. Second behind Serbia , the Irish qualified for the play-offs of the best runners-up in the group. Here he was also used against the Danes . After a goalless draw in Denmark, they lost the home game with 1: 5. He was featured in two of the four games in the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League . In qualifying for the 2020 European Football Championship , he only had a short stint in the 1-0 win in the first game against Gibraltar . In the end it was only enough for 3rd place. Since the group opponents in the Nations League group qualified directly for the European Championship finals, the Irish still have the chance to qualify via the playoffs in March 2020.
