Automotive Lighting (AL) is a German automotive supplier based in Reutlingen . It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Marelli Group and its core business is the development and production of vehicle headlights and taillights .

history

The company emerged in 1999 as a joint venture from the Lighting Group of Magneti Marelli and K2 Lichttechnik from Bosch . In 2003 Magneti Marelli acquired the remaining company shares. After changes in the shareholder structure, the company has been a subsidiary and division of the Marelli Group since 2019 .

Innovations

  • In 1991 the company, which at that time was still operating under the name of Bosch , introduced xenon lights (low beam) to the automotive market with BMW with the 7 series .
  • In 2007, AL presented the first full- LED headlight in the Audi R8 , which in 2008 received the red dot award in the product design category.
  • In 2014, the laser high beam was introduced in the headlight of the Audi R8 LMX
  • In 2018, the first headlight with DMD micro-mirror technology was launched in a limited Mercedes Maybach variant.
  • In 2019, the Audi e-tron Sportback was the first headlight in a production vehicle to be equipped with micromirror technology (DMD).
