Bülent Akın (born August 28, 1978 in Brussels ) is a former Belgian - Turkish football player , coach and official.
Player career
societies
Akın was born to parents of Turkish origin in Brussels . Here he started with club football in the youth of RSC Anderlecht . After he had come of age to move up the club's professional team, was not considered by the coaching staff at the time. Akın himself later stated that he had not been given a chance to assert himself. He was suspected of stealing money from the dressing room and was suspended from the team for three months without the opportunity to comment. After these developments he accepted the offer of the Turkish first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara in the spring of 1997 and moved to Turkey . At Gençlerbirliği, despite a professional contract, he played half a season mostly for the reserve team and only played two league games for the professionals. For the new season he was loaned to the second division club Yeni Salihlispor . At this club he played under the young and progressive coach Ersun Yanal and quickly established himself as a regular. After the end of the season, Yanal took over the league rivals Denizlispor and ensured that the club also signed Akın from Gençlerbirliği. After the commitment failed, he was loaned out in November until the end of the season. With this club, he finished the qualifying round confidently first and thus reached the spring 1999 participation in the promotion round of the 2nd Lig . In the promotion round you delivered a head-to-head race for the second division championship with Vanspor and Göztepe Izmir . The season was finished behind Vanspor as runner-up and so rose again to the first league after a three-year absence . Akın was one of the top performers of his team in this promotion season and was therefore obliged at the end of the season for a transfer fee. At the same time, Akıns sponsor Yanal left the team for MKE Ankaragücü . Akın expanded his position within the team and became one of the shooting stars of the 1999/2000 first division season .
Through his performances in the 1999/2000 season he had particularly impressed the Galatasaray star Gheorghe Hagi so much that he persuaded his club to sign Akın for a transfer fee of eight million dollars. He played his first competitive game for Galatasaray in the UEFA Super Cup final against Spanish top club Real Madrid . Here he came on for Gheorghe Hagi in the 72nd minute. His team won the game with a golden goal from Mário Jardel . This is how Akın won his first title. In the regular season, Akın showed a promising performance in the first days of the match. In the further course of the season he could not call up the performance he expected and was often on the bench. Galatasaray missed the safe championship in a chaotic season and reached the quarter-finals as the only bright spot in the UEFA Champions League . Akın experienced a similar season in the second season at Galatasaray. His team ended the first division season 2001/02 as champions. In the summer, the master trainer Mircea Lucescu was replaced by the old successful trainer Fatih Terim . This put most of the new players who were brought in during the two-year Lucescu era on the sales list, including Akın.
In the summer of 2002 Akın moved to the English Premier League for the Bolton Wanderers . After he could not assert himself at this club and came to only one league use during the season, Akın moved back to his old club Gençlerbirliği after only one year. At this club, his former sponsor Ersun Yanal had taken over the coaching office and agreed to the change of his former player. Even with Gençlerbirliği, Akın was unable to continue his old form and was a reservist here. His team had qualified for the 2003/04 UEFA Cup by a third place in the table in the preseason . Akın had an equally successful UEFA Cup season with this club. In the 1st round they prevailed against the English club Blackburn Rovers and switched off Sporting Lisbon in the 2nd round . In the 3rd round they met the Italian top club AC Parma . After winning the first leg in Parma surprisingly 1-0, they caused a small sensation in the second leg in front of a home crowd with a 3-0 win. In the second round they met later UEFA Cup winners Valencia . After winning the first game in front of a home crowd with 1-0, they lost the second leg with 0-2. Valencia scored the 0-2 in the 94th minute and advanced one round. Gençlerbirliği reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup in the same season and thus secured another participation in the UEFA Cup. The final game was lost 4-0 to Trabzonspor . With the end of the season Akın left the club and moved to league rivals Malatyaspor . For this club he only played two years in the Süper Lig and then one year in the TFF 1st Lig .
After Akın could not find a new club in the summer of 2007, he hired in the spring of 2008 at the second division club MVV Maastricht . Here he played until the summer and then moved to the Dutch club MVV Maastricht. Although Akın almost always played regularly here, he moved to the Turkish third division club Pursaklarspor in the summer of 2009 . After a year and a half he left this club and went to league rivals Yeni Malatyaspor .
In the summer he returned to Pursaklarspor, which in the meantime had been renamed Kızılcahamamspor . Here he played until February 2012, then terminated his current contract by mutual agreement and ended his active football career.
National team
Akın played six times for the Turkish U-21 national team . He and his team took part in a U-21 European football championship , the U-21 European Championship 2000 , for the first time in the association 's history. Here, however, they were eliminated in the group stage.
Career after that
In the 2013/14 season, Bülent Akın and Alexandre Tokpa completed all of the training for the UEFA B license, both of which they received in 2014.
In February 2015 he worked for his first professional club Gençlerbirliği Ankara and looked after the reserve team with the club's U21 team. At the end of the season, Konyaspor moved on to the first division and looked after the club's U-15 team from summer 2015 to November 2016. In summer 2017 he was hired as sporting director at this club. Akin was released in September of that year.
