The BYD F3DM is the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid , built by the Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD Auto . The vehicle was initially offered exclusively on the Chinese market to a limited group of buyers for around 15,000 euros. It was a variant of the F3 series . In 2009, 48 copies of the F3DM were shipped to Chinese corporate and government customers. A sale to end customers was announced for the end of 2010.
The production of the unsuccessful model was stopped in spring 2013; however, the sale of this model is still being advertised in China. The less successful vehicle will be replaced in 2014 by the new development BYD Qin .

A lithium iron phosphate accumulator is used to store energy for the electric motor . An internal combustion engine BYD sets a 1.0- l - Otto engine with 50 kW (67 hp) that can be which co-used both for charging the battery and also for direct drive ( serial-parallel hybrid ), the electric motor has a maximum torque of 407 Nm and a nominal power of 50 kW. The range is specified as approx. 100 km with one battery charge. The vehicle can also be charged at the socket ( plug-in hybrid ).
