The BYD Song is an SUV made by the Chinese car manufacturer BYD Auto , a subsidiary of the BYD group. The vehicle is named after the Chinese Song dynasty . In other markets such as Costa Rica or Uruguay , the SUV is marketed as BYD S3 or BYD S5 .

The first generation of the SUV was first presented in April 2015 at the Shanghai Auto Show . In October 2015, the song started selling with internal combustion engines. A version with a plug-in hybrid drive followed in early 2016. With the song EV300, another variant with an electric motor followed in 2017 , which was replaced in 2018 by the song EV400, then the song EV500 with a longer range. At the end of August 2018, the song received a facelift, which is optically based on the second generation of BYD Tang .
Technical specifications
The two petrol engines available at the market launch have an output of either 113 kW (154 hp) or 151 kW (205 hp). The plug-in hybrid DM has a system output of 333 kW (453 hp). The internal combustion engine is the 113 kW (154 PS) 1.5-liter gasoline engine, the combination with the two 110 kW (150 PS) electric motors is already known from the BYD Tang. The electric version is powered by a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor.

The second generation of the song was presented at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019 . The SUV went on sale in the Chinese market in July 2019. The series is again available with a combustion engine, as a plug-in hybrid and as an electric vehicle.
