The Bondorf (b Herrenberg) Bahnhof is on the Gäubahn and the local Metropolitan Express -distance Stuttgart - Horb . Driving is carried out at least every hour, with numerous amplifier connections during rush hour .

Bondorf train station is used by around 2,300 people every day (as of 2016).

location

The train station is a few 100 meters west of the town center and about 10 km south of Herrenberg .

history

On January 8, 1974, a relay interlocking (type Sp Dr L30 ) went into operation in the station. With the electrification of the Böblingen – Horb line on September 29, 1974, the Bondorf station was also partially integrated into Stuttgart's electric suburban traffic.

Discarded projects

In 2011 the city of Nagold tried to establish a direct connection to the Baden-Württemberg state capital Stuttgart . After the plans for an extension of the S6 line of the Stuttgart S-Bahn to Nagold were rejected, a further solution was sought. The extension of the S1 line, which currently ends in Herrenberg , was considered. Since a new line parallel to the B 28 ( Ulm - Kehl ) with only 2 stops was considered too expensive, a route over the Gäubahn and the Nagoldtalbahn was examined. This also leads via Bondorf . According to the appraiser, the community would benefit greatly from this new connection. In the end, the project was discarded due to the long travel time compared to the existing Herrenberg – Nagold bus connection - however, it does not stop in Bondorf.

Rehabilitation of the train station

Planned route of the extension of the S1 from Herrenberg via Bondorf to Nagold with the faster bus route between the two cities

Since the station in need of renovation urgently needed to be renovated for future long-distance traffic , a total of 9 million euros was made available by Deutsche Bahn . Track 3 was moved a bit to the west in order to widen the platforms of tracks 2 and 3 and create an overpass . But since a resident feared additional noise from the construction work , he protested. He also turned down the noise protection windows offered by Deutsche Bahn. It is now being discussed whether the noise barriers should be extended. For this purpose, a plan approval procedure was initiated with a hearing of the citizens concerned, but this resulted in additional costs in the six-digit range. The goal of refurbishing the station until the new IC service with a stop in Bondorf was put into operation was not met.

The renovation started on April 4, 2017. The main platform and the central platform were rebuilt over a length of 210 m each. The central platform was increased to 76 cm to allow entry to the Intercity . The central platform is in operation, the main platform is closed for renovation work (as of July 2018).

The work should be completed in autumn 2018.

Investments

There is a two-story, Opened in 2011 before the station park and ride - parking with 261 parking spaces, two covered bicycle parking spaces, a bus stop for buses to Nagold (line 778) and Rottenburg (line 7627) and a collection point for call taxis .

Platforms and tracks

Until about the beginning of 2018, access to the platforms on tracks 2 and 3 was via barriers , which were operated by a gatekeeper three minutes before the entrance and shortly after the train left . This was necessary because the narrow platforms did not allow overpasses and underpasses. After the completion of the renovation of the central platform in spring 2018, it is now barrier-free accessible via an elevator .

traffic

View of the track systems (2016)

The station is in the tariff area of the Stuttgart Transport and Tariff Association (VVS).

Track 1 is assigned to the S8 light rail line that ends and begins here, the individual regional trains to Herrenberg and passing trains. The regional and long-distance trains to Stuttgart Hbf stop on platform 2 . Track 3 is used by regional and long-distance trains to Horb , Rottweil , Freudenstadt and Singen . Each track is usually occupied once an hour.

Importance in the region

Many commuters from the Tübingen and Freudenstadt districts who want to travel in the direction of Stuttgart drive to Bondorf station by car , as boarding the regional trains from Bondorf is cheaper than from neighboring communities. This is why the frequency of passengers at the station is far higher than the approximately 5,800 residents of the municipality alone would have expected.

Future planning

Local transport and metropolitan express

Instead of an expensive extension of the Stuttgart S-Bahn, the state of Baden-Württemberg decided to put so-called “Metropolexpress” lines out to tender, which represent a kind of regional S-Bahn. The trains often stop outside of the S-Bahn areas, but only at important stations inside the area.

Bondorf is on the Stuttgart - Horb metropolitan express route , which has been operated in a preliminary stage since December 2017. For Bondorf train station, this concept means half-hourly connections to the state capital Stuttgart and in the other direction to Horb from Monday to Saturday. Together with long-distance traffic, the declared aim of the commissioning of Stuttgart 21 is that two Metropolexpress and one InterCity trains per hour run in each direction on the Gäubahn. Until then, the Metropolexpress trains will not run at the specified time interval; instead, the InterCity trains of the Gäubahn will partly stop in Bondorf and thus ensure frequent intervals. The trains can be used with all local transport tickets, including monthly and student tickets, until at least 2025.

Since December 2017, in addition to new evening connections to increase the frequency, there has also been a new daily late connection from Stuttgart to Rottweil. In addition, on weekend nights and at night before public holidays, connecting trains to the S1 line of the Stuttgart S-Bahn run between Herrenberg and Horb.
