history

Kettenbach was first mentioned in a document in 845, when Count Gebhard im Lahngau established a monastery for regulated canons in honor of Jesus Christ and St. Peter founded and King Louis the German to pin the royal court Lierschied together with the associated forest and goods and people in Hahnstätten gave. The monastery in Kettenbach was abolished in 879 and moved by the founder Gebhard to Gemünden in the Westerwald . The local monastery was dedicated to St. Severus .

In the past, a distinction was made between Niederbach and Unterkettenbach. The church dates from 1752. Before that, two churches stood in the same place. The first school dates from 1591. The Michelbacher Hütte , which had existed since 1632, was taken over in 1884 by the Passavant family of manufacturers . Ten years later, at the instigation of the family, the village was connected to the rail network when the last section of the Aartalbahn was completed.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Daisbach, Hausen via Aar, Kettenbach, Michelbach, Panrod and Rückershausen voluntarily merged on December 31, 1970 to form the new community of Aarbergen. For each district, the main statute established a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor in accordance with the Hessian municipal code.
