The Baïse (also: Grande Baïse ) is a river in southwest France . It rises on the plateau of Lannemezan , in the municipality of Capvern , drains in a general northward direction and after 188 kilometers flows into the Garonne as a left tributary at Saint-Léger .

The river called Grande Baïse in the upper reaches changes its name after the confluence with the Petite Baïse at L'Isle-de-Noé and is only called Baïse from then on . The entire river is always viewed as a unit.

The Baïse is navigable from its mouth to Valence-sur-Baïse . In the 19th century, the river was expanded to transport grain, flour and Armagnac , but today the Baïse is only used for tourism by sport boats and houseboats . In Buzet-sur-Baïse it also has a connection to the Canal latéral à la Garonne (Garonne Lateral Canal).
