Vianne is a municipality with 1016 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in France in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

geography

The city lies on the banks of the Baïse River , a left tributary of the Garonne . Vianne is located in the Buzet wine region .

history

The Bastide of Vianne was founded in 1284 by a Pareage founded -Vertrag, between Jourdain de l'Isle and the Seneschal of Guyenne , Jean de Grailly , the representative of the King of England, I. Edward was closed. The bastide was built on the site of the village of Villelongue, of which the Notre-Dame church remained. The new city received its fortifications at the beginning of the 14th century, before the start of the Hundred Years War . They include a wall 1.2 km in length, four square towers and some round towers (two of which have survived). The history of the city was marked by several skirmishes in Franco-English battles (fights of 1342).
