Damazan ( Occitan : Damasan ) is a municipality with 1354 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in France in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Nérac and the canton of Lavardac and was the capital of the canton of Damazan until 2015 . The inhabitants are called Damazanais .

geography

Damazan is located about 29 kilometers west-northwest of Agen in the Buzet wine-growing region . Damazan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Puch-d'Agenais in the north, Saint-Léger in the east, Buzet-sur-Baïse in the south and south-east, Saint-Pierre-de-Buzet in the south, Caubeyres in the south-west and Saint-Léon in the west.

The A62 autoroute runs through the municipality .

The place was founded as a bastide in 1256.
