Barton is a village in the town of Barton in Orleans County , Vermont in the United States with 737 inhabitants (according to the 2010 census). Barton is centrally located in the town of Barton on which it is politically and administratively dependent. To the east, the village borders the north shore of Crystal Lake . The Interstate 91 runs in a north-south direction along the western edge and the US Highway 5 also in north-south direction through the center of villages.
history
The grant for Barton was proclaimed on October 28, 1781. The grant was given to Colonel William Barton and others. The Village Barton was granted independent rights in 1875. Until then, it was known as Barton Mills . In the early 19th century, Barton Mills was an industrial center. The flood caused by the New England Hurricane of 1927 destroyed the Village, which did not fully recover.
