geography
Bay Minette is located in southwest Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about 12 kilometers west of the Florida border and a few kilometers east of the river landscape of Mobile River , Middle River and Tensaw River , which flow together about 25 kilometers south into Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico .

history
The area was first settled in 1861 when the Louisville and Nashville Railroad reached the area. A crossroads arose which, like the landscape with numerous forests and the river landscape to the west, attracted many settlers.
Despite its central location, the city was not directly selected as the county seat. By 1898, the county seat changed twice before it was decided that it should be relocated to Bay Minette. However , this decision was not accepted by the previous County Seat Daphne and they refused to pass on the files and documents. The city tour of Bay Minette then circulated rumors of a murder and stole the documents from the courthouse in Daphne unnoticed while the investigation was ongoing , ultimately permitting the change of county seat.
This event is commemorated by a mural commissioned by the Works Progress Administration for the post office, built in 1937, by the painter Hilton Leech from Bridgeport , Connecticut .
Two buildings on the site are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 30, 2019), the First Baptist Church and the Killcreas House .
