Beatrice Berrut (born April 19, 1985 ) is a classical Swiss pianist and conductor from the canton of Valais .

biography

Beatrice Berrut was trained by Galina Iwanzowa in Berlin, Esther Yellin in Zurich and Brigitte Engerer in Paris, who are connected to the tradition of Heinrich Neuhaus's Russian piano school.

She started playing the piano when she was eight. She started her studies at the Conservatoire de Lausanne and then studied at the Heinrich Neuhaus Foundation in Zurich. She then perfected her skills at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin and at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with John O'Conor , a student of Wilhelm Kempff .

Her concerts have taken her to major concert halls and festivals in Europe such as the Wiener Musikverein , the Konzerthaus Berlin , the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles , the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Auditorio Stello Mollo in Lugano, and the Fryderyk Chopin University for Music in Warsaw and the Meiningen State Theater . She has performed in the USA (at the Ravinia Festival as well as at Columbia College Chicago and on the occasion of the Myra Hess Memorial Concerts in the Chicago Cultural Center), in Argentina ( Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires and Teatro El Círculo in Rosario) and in Costa Rica with significant accompaniment Orchestras such as the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana , the Dortmund Philharmonic , the South Westphalia Philharmonic , the Orchester national des Pays de la Loire, the North Czech Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle in Meiningen. Her artistic development was strongly influenced by her encounters with Menahem Pressler , Leon Fleisher , Miriam Fried and the late György Sándor , a student of Béla Bartók .

Beatrice Berrut has also been working as a conductor since 2018. She has arranged movements from Mahler's symphonies for piano.

Chamber music

In 2005 Beatrice Berrut was invited by Gidon Kremer to several concerts at his Museliques Festival in Basel. During the festival in the Hamptons (NY) in 2011 she also performed with Itzhak Perlman and with artists such as Frans Helmerson , Mihaela Martin and Shlomo Mintz and the Trio Saint-Exupéry.

Radio and television

She played and entered into a series of radio shows: on France Musique on SRF two on RTS La Première in the mission Vertigo with Pierre Philippe Cadert on Radio Suisse Romande Espace 2 , the Bavarian Radio in "Music Matters" on BBC Three and in numerous programs on Canadian and American radios ( WFMT in Chicago, CKWR in Kitchener , Ontario ). Awards

Beatrice Berrut is the Swiss winner of the Eurovision Young Musicians 2002. In 2006 she received the Jean Clostre Prize of the Société des Arts de Genève, in 2009 the Johann Sebastian Bach Special Prize of the Wiesbaden International Piano Competition, awarded by the music publisher Breitkopf & Härtel . In 2010, the canton of Valais awarded her the MusiquePro scholarship for three years. In 2011 she received the “Revelación” award from the Asociación de Criticos Musicales de la Argentina and in 2014 the sponsorship award from the Canton of Valais. Your CD Lux Aeterna - Visions of Bach appeared in the top ten of the NDR recordings 2015. In 2009, 2015 and 2019 she received the creative contribution to sound production of the canton of Valais, in 2019 the Prix culturel of Monthey. In 2019 she became Artist in Residence at Murten Classics.

Beatrice Berrut has been a Bösendorfer artist since 2014.

Reviews

The album on the Centaur Records label, which is dedicated to Robert Schumann's complete piano sonatas , received praise from the international press. Fanfare magazine spoke of “a very impressive first recording […], as expressive as the version by Horowitz”, the American Record Guide of “an excellent recording, a complete understanding of Schumann's music”, while the Canadian art magazine Worldcom News an “exceptional result” praised, “with which touch and expression give the Schumann sonatas a unique and inspiring sound”. Private

Beatrice Berrut grew up with her sister in the Valais mountains. She trained to be a pilot for several years. She is a trained whiskey taster and lives in Monthey .
