Beau Bennett grew up in Gardena , California , and has been playing roller hockey, which is popular in this region, since he was four . He began playing ice hockey at the age of eight in Los Angeles, just a few kilometers away . There he finally played with the Los Angeles Junior Kings , a youth organization of the NHL franchise Los Angeles Kings , and attended Valley Christian High School at the same time . In 2009 Bennett moved to Penticton for the Pentincton Vees , where he also had offers from the Calgary Hitmen and the Tri-City Storm . He decided against the "major junior" level that the stars and hitmen would have represented in the WHL and USHL , and for the one level below that "junior A" level, at which he was henceforth with the Vees played in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

In his first year with the Vees he reached first place in the scorer statistics of the entire BCHL with 120 scorer points in 56 games. As he started the rookie season with convincing performances , he was appointed to the World Junior A Challenge in November 2009 to represent his home country there. He was the first player in the history of the event who competed for the USA and did not play in the domestic USHL . The United States won the Challenge by beating Team Canada West 2-1 in the final . A month later, Bennett took part in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Prospects Event , an event for promising talent organized by the umbrella organization of all Canadian Junior A Leagues, and was voted Best Striker. After he took part in the BCHL All-Star Game in January 2010 and was named Rookie of the Year at the Interior Conference at the end of the season , his achievements throughout the rookie season were honored with 32nd place in the Prospect Ranking for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft . In the actual draft he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 20th position - making Bennett the highest drafted Californian in NHL history.

In the run-up to the Entry Draft 2010 it was already clear that Bennett would leave the Pentincton Vees and attend the University of Denver from autumn 2010 . The nickname " Beau Dangles " comes from his time with the Vees (German roughly: " Beau täuscht an ", " Beau fintiert "; play on words with Bojangles' ).

college

At the University of Denver , Bennett played for the Denver Pioneers in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a college sports league in the Midwest . As a freshman , he had difficulties finding his way in the new team or the new division - first he stayed six games without a point, then he was out for six weeks in December due to a knee injury. In addition, the winger was criticized during this phase for his less pronounced physique and the relatively disembodied game associated with his roller hockey past. He finished his first season in Denver with 25 points from 37 games. The following season, Bennett seriously injured his wrist during training in October , so that he underwent an operation in December 2011 after a short period of further missions. As a result, he was only used ten times as a sophomore for the Pioneers, but was nevertheless elected to the All-WCHA Academic Team for the 2011/12 season. Despite the relatively small number of missions, Bennett signed a three-year entry level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in April 2012 .

Pittsburgh Penguins

In the Pittsburgh Penguins Bennett took part in the preparation for the 2012/13 season , but was, as expected, given to the farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the AHL . After he was called up to the NHL squad for the first time after half a year and 28 points in 39 games in the AHL in February 2013, he made his debut in the National Hockey League on February 15, 2013 against the Winnipeg Jets . In addition, he was appointed to the AHL All-Star Classic in January . Bennett, however, maintained his place in the NHL line-up and scored his first NHL goal just under a week later against the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the remaining games of the regular season, Bennett managed a total of three goals and eleven assists. In the subsequent play-offs, in which he scored a total of one goal, the Penguins failed only in the conference final to the Boston Bruins .

In the following season , Bennett is an integral part of the NHL roster, but only joined the team in November due to a groin injury . After only five missions, the winger injured his hand again in November 2013, which required another operation and he is now expected to be out for eight to ten weeks. Bennett announced that the wrist injury, which was operated on in college days, continued to cause problems throughout 2012. The following two seasons were also marked by frequent injuries and thus irregular missions, so that he did not have enough share in winning the Stanley Cup in 2016 to be immortalized on the trophy.

New Jersey, St. Louis, Minsk and Arizona

In June 2016, Bennett was handed over to the New Jersey Devils , who in return sent a third-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to Pittsburgh. In the course of the 2016/17 season , the attacker completed his best NHL season to date with 19 scorer points in 65 missions. After his contract expired, however, he left the Devils and joined the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in July 2017 . There the attacker was sent to the AHL as part of the pre-season, where he played for the Chicago Wolves .

After the 2017/18 season Bennett decided to move to Europe and signed a contract with HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL). After only five games for Minsk, he was dismissed there because he could not get used to the style of play in the KHL, and returned to North America. He eventually made his return to the NHL by signing a one-year free agent contract with the Arizona Coyotes in July 2019 .
