Benitz is a nature reserve in the town of Haldensleben in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0150 is 100  hectares in size. It is located northeast of Haldensleben and protects a former gravel mine and its surroundings in the transition area from the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide to the Ohre - glacial valley . The open pit was exploited until 1992. Parts of the excavation areas have flooded with groundwater, creating open water areas. In addition, there are temporarily water-filled and damp areas with sedge beds and reed beds as well as raw soil areas . These areas are becoming increasingly bushy. Small areas of dry land are covered by sandy grass . In the eastern part of the former open pit one by falter succession arising English oak-hornbeam forests and small alder groves . Large parts were afforested with pine , birch and English oak .

The nature reserve is a habitat for various bird species , including marsh harrier , whinchat and sparrowhawk , which also breed here. It is also a feeding area for black and white storks , tree falcons , red and black kites and a resting area for ospreys , cranes and numerous water bird species . Various amphibians also live here , including the natterjack toad , the common European toad and the newt . The former opencast mine is also important for insects . Various grasshoppers can be found here, such as blue-winged wasteland insects , blue-winged sand insects , western bite insects , spotted club hoppers and field grasshoppers, as well as dragonflies such as the little pitch dragonfly and the little shell-eye .

Through the nature reserve, which in the northwest on the national highway 71 to one side and in the northeast Wirtschaftsweg borders, extends a natural trail .

The area has been under protection since the end of 1998 (date of regulation: December 17, 1998). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Börde.
