The stream valleys of the Lappwald are a nature reserve in the municipality of Beendorf and in the districts of Schwanefeld and Walbeck in the city of Oebisfelde-Weferlingen in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0158 is around 590  hectares in size. To the west it borders on the “ Lappwald ” nature reserve in Lower Saxony . A large part of the protected area is also designated as a 512 hectare FFH area "Lappwald southwest of Walbeck". The area has been under protection since the beginning of 1998 (date of regulation: February 2, 1998). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Börde.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Helmstedt in the east of the Lappwald . It extends along the state border with Lower Saxony and places part of the Lappwald forest in Saxony-Anhalt under protection. The nature reserve is characterized by oak-hornbeam forest , oak-red beech forest, red beech forest and beech slope forest.

The Lappwald is traversed by several near-natural brooks in some deeply cut stream valleys. Hawthorn and sloe bushes can be found on the partly steep valley edges. Due to pressure water on the slopes, there are spring areas and spring pots in several places . Outside of the forest area are particularly along the Riole wetland countries with bach accompanying Hochstaudenfluren and reeds and a conical - gallery forest . In the valley of the Riole in the Lappwald, alder and ash forests grow thick and in marshy hollows there are alder forests .

The Riole in the northern area of ​​the nature reserve is under protection up to the confluence with the Aller in Walbeck. Your stream bed consists of sandy, gravelly and stony sediments. She is u. a. Habitat for brown trout as well as a lowland occurrence of minnow . In the area of ​​the Riole u. a. also fire salamanders , mountain newts and agile frogs .

The forest stands rich in dead wood are u. a. Habitat for various birds such as black , medium , green and small woodpeckers as well as stock pigeons , which find good nesting opportunities here. In addition to other bird species, the red-backed killer , sparrowhawk and garden warbler can be found. The nature reserve is also a habitat for bats , including the pug bat and the great mouse-eared bat . The forests in the nature reserve are also an important habitat for mushrooms and lichens .

The flora in the protected area is depending on the location marked by Schlängelschmiele , blueberry and shadow Floral in ground acidic regions or Woodruff , lily of the valley and nodding melic on Mullboden . Unused grassland areas , especially along the streams, are taken up by Schlankseggenried , rush communities , reed beds and gray willows, angelica , forest rushes , foxtail meadows and flat moor communities with fever clover grow on extensively used grassland . Furthermore, stocks of the broad-leaved orchid can be found. In the Lüddeckes pond, a section of the Riole used as a fish pond, u. a. White water lily , floating pondweed and common fir frond .

Existing non-natural forests with pines and larches are to be converted into near-natural and site-typical forest stands.
