The Upper Old Town is a common quarter in District I, Inner City . Two statistical districts belong to it: the yellow quarter and the red quarter . In the east it borders on the lower old town , the border forms the Kornhausplatz.
In 2019 there are 1223 inhabitants, of which 896 are Swiss and 327 are foreigners.
The old town of Bern is (identical to the Inner City), the historical center of the Swiss federal capital Berne and a World Heritage of UNESCO .
The Bundeshaus and other federal buildings, the Swiss National Bank , the Kornhaus and the city theater as cultural centers, the Käfigturm and the Kleine Schanze park are located on the grounds of the Upper Old Town . Bundesplatz, Bärenplatz and Waisenhausplatz together form what is probably the most central square ensemble in Bern. The Bern train station with its forecourt and the arcades in the east-west lanes are some of the highlights of what is probably the most central area of Bern.
